For 50 years, PSS has supported parents, grandparents, and kinship caregivers through free emotional, educational, and advocacy services, regardless of immigration status. We offer Parenting Support Groups in 7+ languages and operate a kinship care support line. PSS is a Living Wage Employer.

Role: Community Development Worker

2SLGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, and persons with disabilities encouraged to apply.

Type: Full-time, permanent (Start ASAP) (Will consider part-time applicants)

Hours: Maximum 35 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm with flexibility (some evenings and weekends required)

Location: Provincial office is located in Burnaby, supporting a remote position within BC is a possibility depending on skills of the person hired.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Community Development Worker will work with and support the team to ensure that we meet the needs of the families we serve. This is a role that you can develop and build depending on your skills and interests, combined with PSS’s needs and values.

Key Responsibilities

Assisting and supporting the development of:

  • Indigenous programming/community outreach
  • Newcomer programming/community outreach
  • Policy, research, and evaluation
  • Volunteer Facilitator training
  • Workshops and short-term courses
  • Peer-to-Peer Support Groups
  • Data collection and analysis

You offer Parent Support Services

Qualifications: 

  • Strong teamwork/collaborative skills
  • Education and/or lived experience in the areas of community development, social work, community-based organizing
  • Commitment to anti-oppressive practices, decolonization, and social justice
  • Understanding of family violence, parenting, and inclusion
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage time, work independently, and under pressure

Assets: 

  • Additional languages
  • Event planning experience
  • Marketing and social media experience
  • Comfortable in a culturally diverse workplace
  • Strong advocacy skills
  • Project management experience or training
  • Non-profit sector knowledge
  • Knowledge of community services/resources
  • Counselling skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities
  • Experience with newcomer communities
  • Fundraising and grant writing experience
