Selinde Krayenhoff: Building Family Community
Our values are the building blocks of our family life. What are your values? What are this culture's values? How do you develop and support your family's values and give your children a strong sense of community to take out into the larger community with them? Using Nonviolent Communication and other ideas and strategies, Selinde will help participants bring awareness and purpose to their parenting and solidity to their children's first community, their family.
Selinde Krayenhoff is the co-founder and former publisher/editor of Island Parent, a writer and community worker. She facilitates groups, teaches and gives keynotes on Nonviolent Communication, parenting and spirituality.

Family as Community:
Dr. Allison Rees: Teaching the Spirit of Community
When we can share our gifts, respect our own personal boundaries and focus on the needs of others we become free of petty self-criticism and low self-esteem. Contributing simply feels good and learning to treat others with kindness and consideration is the essence of any healthy limit setting with our children. Join Allison as she takes discipline past time out and no screen time. How do we teach kindness, contribution and the spirit of community?
Dr. Allison Rees of LIFE Seminars has supported the parenting community with workshops and individual counselling for fifteen years. She is the co-author of Sidestepping the Power Struggle, co-host of Island Parent Radio and contributor to Island Parent Magazine and Parenting Teens magazine. Her sense of humour and practical approach take the guess work out of parenting.

Parenting On the Edge:
Join parenting expert Cindy Clark as she takes us through a process of discovering a deeper awareness of our edges and abilities as parents, and assists us in finding safe and sustaining ways to nurture ourselves as people and develop the skills essential to positive parenting. Participants will share stories and come away with techniques that will help them nurture themselves and their families. A discussion group at the end of the day will provide participants with the opportunity to discuss ongoing connections and support with one another.
Cindy Clark has directed most of her professional work to the healing and nurturing of healthy family relationships. Cindy co-founded the Parenting on the Edge Project, which focuses on giving a safe space for parents to disclose and come to terms with stories of edge moments in parenting. Cindy’s workshops have garnered praise from parents, caregivers and professionals for their depth, courage and long term impact.
